POSITION: HEAD START TEACHER – UPK
LOCATION: MERRICK HEAD START, 175 Hudson St., Syracuse
RESPONSIBLE TO: SITE SUPERVISOR
STARTING PAY RANGE: $27.27 - $30.60 per hour
SCHEDULE: Full-time, school weekdays, 45 weeks per year
Intake Workers recruit families into the Head Start/Early Head Start program by presenting program options, eligibility criteria and discussing the enrollment process with potential clients. The Intake Worker completes intakes in compliance with federal guidelines to prepare families and children for entrance into the program, by obtaining and verifying documentation required by HS/EHS federal regulations.
The Nutrition Aide helps serve meals and snacks to children in each Head Start/Early Head Start classrooms. This position works closely with other kitchen staff to ensure proper handling of food, maintaining cleanliness of kitchen, and tracking inventory and works in collaboration with nurses to ensure proper dietary needs are followed.
Operate a mid-sized school bus to transport up to 14 preschoolers to and from Head Start classroom sites, with the assistance of bus monitors. School days 6:30am to 9:00am and 1:30pm to 4:00pm, 44 weeks per year.

UPK teachers promote the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of Head Start children. Teachers provide and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment for children in the program to advance their physical, social, emotional and intellectual competence through activities, learning and other programming. Teachers collaborate with families/guardians and other key stakeholders to the ensure the success of enrolled children.

LOCATION: SUMNER HEAD START, 215 Bassett Street, Syracuse
STARTING PAY RANGE: $20.44 to $22.64 per hour, depending on qualifications
SCHEDULE: FULL-TIME, 47 WEEKS PER YEAR
Work collaboratively with the Syracuse City School District and other entities such as family court, criminal court and probation, in helping students meet the established mandatory education requirements while attending an alternative school program. Full-time weekdays, starting between $17.50 to $18.50 per hour.
Working in conjunction with two co-teachers, provide a safe and engaging learning environment in a classroom with up to 8 children ages 2 to 3, ensuring that they are well supervised and cared for while in our care.
Head Start Teacher Aide assists the assigned preschool classroom team in implementing a child-centered, quality early childhood program, by helping the lead teacher and teacher assistant provide a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere that supports individual growth and development.

In conjunction with the Site Supervisor at a Head Start / Early Head Start classroom building, monitor and train child development staff to assess their skills, increase their competency, and ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and with NYS Office of Children and Family Services requirements. Perform direct supervision duties in the absence of the site supervisor.
Insulation Crew Members weatherize client homes using a variety of carpentry skills in compliance with weatherization safety rules, regulations and procedures. The position includes tasks such removing and replacing different types of siding materials installing air-sealing materials for application of high-density blown cellulose.
The Community-Based Mentor Manager develops and monitors meaningful matches between adult volunteer mentors and youth in the community participating in our Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. Working closely with the mentors, parents/guardians and others in the community, the mentor manager nurtures the mentor/mentee relationship to ensure successful matches.
Head Start Teacher Aide assists the assigned preschool classroom team in implementing a child-centered, quality early childhood program, by helping the lead teacher and teacher assistant provide a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere that supports the individual growth and development.
Assist the Nutrition Coordinator of the Head Start / Early Head Start program, in the planning and administration of quality food service operations, food and nutrition education, and nutritional health follow-up for children ages birth to five, pregnant women, and their families, in accordance with federal performance standards.
The Home Visitor works with enrolled parents at the Jamesville Correctional facility to develop goals around child, family and community development and health/nutrition based on the identified needs of the children and families. Working with pregnant and post-partum women and men who are incarcerated, the Home Vistor provides crisis intervention, emergency assistance, counseling, information, training and referral services.
The Mechanic diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems and performs repairs for the Agency fleet of vehicles including DOT and non-DOT vehicles in the agency owned garage. The mechanic coordinates preventative maintenance, responds to break-downs and facilites outsourcing of other repairs not performed in house.
The Family Worker position at PEACE, Inc. provides family development services to HS/EHS participants through identification of family needs and provision of crisis intervention, emergency assistance, counseling, information and referral services. Working closely with parents/guardians, classroom staff, and other stakeholders, the family worker prepares Family Partnership Agreements that provide for appropriate action plans to improve quality of family life.
