LOCATION: Merrick Early Head Start, 175 Hudson Street, Syracuse
SCHEDULE: Weekdays 7:30am to 3:30pm. Paid leave includes all federal holidays and school-year breaks (December, February, April), plus additional accumulated paid leave.
STARTING PAY RANGE: $20.98 to $23.03 per hour, depending on level of education.
QUALIFICATIONS - One year of experience working with children ages 6 weeks to 18 months in a group setting, and demonstrated formal education in a relevant field:
Level I - Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate credential, or equivalent.
Level II - Completed two-year college degree in Early Childhood Education, or in a related field with at least 18 credits in Early Childhood Education.
Level III - Completed four-year college degree in Early Childhood Education, or in a related field with at least 24 credits in Early Childhood Education.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure that all children assigned to classroom are supervised at all times. Perform regular counts of children assigned to ensure that all are accounted for.
2. Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment, using space, materials and routines as resources for developing an interesting, secure, and enjoyable environment that encourages play, exploration, and learning.
3. Advance physical and intellectual competence, by providing a variety of equipment, activities and opportunities that promote the physical development of children and that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to their developmental levels and learning styles.
4. Support social and emotional development and providing positive guidance. Actively communicate with children; provide opportunities and support for children to understand, acquire, and use verbal and nonverbal means of communicating thoughts and feelings. Provide a supportive environment in which children can begin to learn and practice appropriate and acceptable behaviors as individuals and as a group.
5. Establish positive and productive relationships with families, encourage their involvement in the program, and support the child's relationship with his or her family, through parent-teacher conferences and volunteering opportunities at the classroom site. Conduct four home visits per year with each family of children enrolled in assigned classroom, in conjunction with the co-teacher.
6. Work with classroom team to perform lesson planning, record keeping, and observations and individualizations.
