POSITION SUMMARY: Provide safe transportation of enrolled children between their homes and their classroom site, with the assistance of staff serving as bus monitors. Assist assigned classroom site at the direction of the Site Supervisor between bus runs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A clean, current New York State CDL. School bus (S) endorsement preferred upon hire, or ability to obtain. A clean driving record for the prior 18 months, with zero points charged, and not more than one motor vehicle accident within three years. Experience driving large passenger vehicles.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Pick up and drop off children at designated locations. Ensure that all children are safely secured in appropriate safety child restraints prior to driving.
2. Ensure that children safely enter and exit the bus, and are received by authorized adults.
3. Walk the bus at the end of each route to ensure that all children have safely exited the bus.
4. Work as a supplemental aide in classrooms as directed by Site Supervisor.
5. Load and transport supplies, mail, food containers, or other items as directed.
6. Provide safe transportation for classroom field trips or socialization activities as needed.
7. Assist Site Supervisor with office duties as needed: answering phones, filing, etc.
8. Keep bus washed and sanitized according to establish schedule.
9. Follow transportation procedures to check bus readiness twice daily.
10. Perform bus evacuation drills three times per year, as required by Head Start regulations.
