Maternal Child Health Nurse, Early Head Start program

SCHEDULE:  Full-time weekdays, 52 weeks per year

STARTING PAY RANGE:  $22.00 TO $23.00 per hour

LOCATION:  1125 West Genesee Street, Syracuse

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • RN or LPN currently licensed in New York State.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pregnancy, newborn, child and family health, which includes prevention concepts, health teaching principles, and promotion of psychosocial and physical wellbeing.
  • Maternal-Child nursing, Obstetrics and/or Pediatric experience is preferred.
  • Belief in a health advocacy approach to helping families seek and utilize health resources.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must have a valid New York State Driver License.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • CPR/FA certification required.
  • CLC or IBCLC certification preferred but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide health services to pregnant mothers enrolled in Early Head Start Home Based Program. This includes providing education in breastfeeding, prenatal and postnatal care, and infant care including the newborn assessment, and making referrals as needed.
  2. Attend home visits and socialization activities with assigned Home Visitor as needed. 
  3. Complete required documentation (home visit lesson plans, socialization lesson plans, and end of month reports) as required. 
  4. Maintain health data on pregnant women and enrolled children.
  5. Provide health education to families during home visits and during socialization activities.
  6. Provide training and technical support to Home Visitors.
  7. Establish and maintain community partners to enhance health education and health services.
  8. Report incidents or concerns of child abuse or neglect.
