Classroom Specialist, Head Start / Early Head Start
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires an Associate's degree in a field related to Early Childhood Education plus five years of early childhood teaching experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a field related to Early Childhood Education plus three years of early childhood teaching experience.
Strong verbal, written and computer skills.
Must be able to work in a diverse work setting and interact with families and all levels of staff.
Experience supervising staff is desirable.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
In conjunction with the Site Supervisor, monitor and train child development staff to assess their skills, increase their competency, and ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards as well as NYS Office of Children and Family Services requirements.
Make formal and informal observations as directed.
Identify training needs based on observations.
Review the education folders of the children enrolled at the site.
Review classroom lesson plans every week.
Ensure classroom planning sessions are occurring and attend often.
Provide parent education activities related to child development.
Work with staff to meet the needs of enrolled children and families.
Facilitate and monitor the responsibilities of the child development staff, including but not limited to home visits and parent teacher conferences.
Participate in site meetings to ensure appropriate integration of the Child Development content area.
